When Does a Lawyer Need a Lawyer?

Sometimes a lawyer needs another lawyer to help rescue a case from an adverse decision, or to protect a favorable judgement, or simply to meet time-sensitive briefing deadlines.

Appellate lawyer Jenny Deasy learned to do all these things from Chief Justice Pascal F. Calogero, Jr. - first as his law clerk at the Louisiana Supreme Court and later in private practice together for several years. The fight at the court of appeal and beyond is different than in the trial court: different standards and different rules require a different approach to different jurists. Ms. Deasy knows these differences, and how to use them. Indeed, Ms. Deasy was honored to be named a Top Lawyer in Appellate Practice by fellow attorneys, as polled by New Orleans Magazine (2018, 2019, 2020).

Ms. Deasy offers clients her fresh eyes on the law, the record, and the rulings of the lower courts. Services include:

  • Preparation of writs, appeals, and amicus briefs

  • Research and drafting assistance for trial strategy and motion practice

  • Consultation on appellate procedure, writability, issue preservation, etc.

Ms. Deasy’s practice is informed by her law and policy background in international development, corporate management, and public service as a Presidential Management Fellow. She earned her B.A. at the College of William and Mary, and her J.D. from Loyola University School of Law. Ms. Deasy is licensed to practice law in Louisiana, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, and she is admitted to the bars of the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ms. Deasy maintains her own practice, and is Of Counsel to Ajubita, Leftwich, & Salzer, LLC.
